We have had enjoyed a gentle, quiet winter focusing on some house projects and making plans for the 2024 season. We are making a few big changes this year!
Every summer since moving to Squash Blossom Farm 16 years ago we have been vendors at the Rochester Farmers Market, and it hs been a wonderful experience, but this year we are retiring from the market to expand activities at the farm.
We loved baking breads and pastries for you at the Farmers Market, and plan to still bake many of your favorites for sale at the farm. We are tentatively planning to be open on Saturdays starting at 10 a.m. with breads, scones, raspberry cream cheese rolls, blueberry-lime tarts, served up with hot coffee, then transitioning to a few lunch options and the Meadery being open afternoon to evening. You will be able to special order your favorite baked goods (Tomato Tart, anyone?) to pickup at the farm on Saturdays, and we hope you will add a farm coffee break to your list of fun Saturday morning activities! Stay tuned for all the details coming soon.
Summer Sundays when happy crowds come out ot listen to great local music and feast upon wood-fired pizza are our favorite night of the week! This summer, we are adding a second pizza and music night on Thursdays, starting in June! Twice as many opportunities to partake of delicious wood-fired pizza and mead on the farm and twice as many great local bands to hear! (In this clip you are listening to a Summer Sundays pizza night with The Lonely Knees.)
Rog has been busy making many batches of new meads (wines made with honey) for the 2024 season, including Perry, a semi-dry, lightly carbonated pear mead made from local heritage perry pears that is elegant and champagne-like. So delectable!
Perry is just being bottled now and will be unveiled and available at our Mothers Day Brunch.
The Meadery will be open Saturday afternoons and early evenings starting mid-May, and mead will be available on both Pizza nights. We will also be open evenings by appointment for special group events. Contact us if you are interested in bringing your book club, biking club, or other group out for a mead night.
Speaking of Mothers Day, tickets are now available and going fast for our 4th annual Mothers Day Brunch on May 12th in the greenhouse! This year our guest chef is the remarkable and beloved Omar Feyen! Chef Omar has planned a spectacular and delicious spread. Our favorite Mothers Day Brunch musicians, DD & Company will be back to provide the soundtrack for the celebration. See all the details and make your reservations here.
But first, we are preparing for ReBlossomFest our annual EarthDay-inspired spring pop-up sale in the greenhouse, Saturday April 27th! You will find delightful repurposed and vintage treasures and cool things for your home and garden! Spring seems to be arriving early this year, so you might catch the farm in its early spring glory, abounding with daffodils, tulips and magnolia blossoms. Hot coffee and freshly-baked scones will be available, and the mead room will be open for tastings, Find all the details HERE on our event page (where it says "buy tickets" but don't worry, there is no admission charge.)
We are all eagerly awaiting spring and your return visit to Squash Blossom Farm!
We have so many fun things planned for you this year!
Roger & Susan
